Here's a poem:

Pure Anticipation

by Cody Craig, 2021

As the smallest finger

on my right hand

found the tiniest space

between desire and escape

liberation and comfort

hunger and fear,

I felt the rising up,

a pulsating,

as muscles tensed

focus narrowed.

And pure unbridled anticipation

clouded hesitation.

You also tightened,

curved,

positioned in nearness

knowing

understanding

comprehending in truest ways

that closeness is not close enough.

What the lips can do

is mere illusion

is the temptation,

the tongue is seduction itself

and your breath became my breath

as we interlocked

and attempted to fall together

being into being.

As our hearts merged together

and the quickened thumping

became a beating drum

a calling to dance

around an endless fire.

As I lost myself in you

we lost time itself.
