Here's a poem:

Sometimes

by Cody Craig, 2022

Sometimes,

on the windier days

I feel my branches

brush against yours.

Too many times

have I felt

the power

of unbridled longing…

a longing that,

out of time’s anxiety,

becomes loss before loss

ever occurs.

Those old rings represent

scars of scattered memory.

My bark now,

fresh,

healed,

deals in surprises.

I no longer

crave the caress

against my cheek.

I am delighted

in the gift of

warmth.

Being to being.

I am free of you

you are free of me

yet we are one

in the same.

And still…

none at all.
